Trade Table
The trade table will be a timed event this year, meaning it will start at 11:00 am and close betweem 4:45 amd 5:00 pm. Limiting it to 6 hours means people will not have to account for more than one meal and will be able to make plans with the certainty that the trade table will not impinge on their valuable gaming hours. This scheme also successfully countered the prolonged ending where people competed for the worst (last) pick.
Submissions will be limted to 7 bundles like last year and there will likely be games left on the table when 5:00 pm rolls around. Any games not chosen will be picked up by their owners. As before, there is no Sombrero of Shame, consequently, there is no reason to submit Monopoly in a bag or Urban Legends. Submissions, such as Monopoly in a bag will not be accepted as it will be a waste of time for all involved. If you are contemplating entering a number of small / common games, please consider bundling to increase the likelihood of your entry being picked. Advice / suggestions on how to bundle can be solicited at check in.
Submissions: Each participant may submit up to 7 items / lots. Submissions will be accepted 9:00 am to 10:00 pm on Friday and from 9:00 am until 11:00 am on Saturday. Submissions will not be accepted on Thursday. Blue 'painters' tape will be available for bundling and will be used to affix the lot numbers. This has worked very well in the past.
Condition: It is expected all submissions will be complete and in fair condition. One can submit a game that is incomplete, but it MUST be clearly marked as such.
First Pick: First pick will be chosen by drawing a name randomly from all trade table participants. Each participant will get one entry into the drawing regardless of the number of items submitted or the apparent value of the submitted items.
Following Picks: The owner of each picked game will make the next pick until the ending time is reached. You may pick your own game, effectively withdrawing your game from the Trade Table.
Last Pick: The owner of the last picked game will receive a prize. Remember the ending time is between 4:45 and 5:00 pm. Once 4:45pm is reached, the person who just picked a game will draw a card from amongst a small set of cards at the Trade Table command center. All cards but one will be blank with the non-blank card signaling the last pick has just been made. The owner of the last picked game will be awarded the prize.
Proxies: You will be able to designate a proxy to make a pick for them if you are not available. To setup a proxy, both people must show up so I can get both peoples name on a card. I don’t want Mike showing up and telling me Sam will be making picks for him only to find out Sam has no idea he was even being considered as a proxy.
Pick Lists: An alternative to a proxy would be to fill out a ordered pick list so the pick can be made for you while you are not available. Fill out a card with the names and numbers of the games in the order that you would like them picked. Note, this does not mean you can submit a list at the beginning of the Trade Table and then disappear for the entire event. I don’t want this to turn into a math trade, so please use this option with discretion. A pick list will be good for half an hour.
Absence: Should a person be absent for their pick without having the foresight of setting up a proxy or pick list, Geekway Representatives will attempt to obtain advice from whomever is willing to give it to make a good faith pick. We hope this situation never arises. Amazingly enough, this has only occurred a few times in the last 3 years and only toward the very end of the event.
